Hey, lovely bride-to-be!
As a wedding photographer, one of my absolute favorite parts of a wedding morning is capturing all those gorgeous little details that make your day uniquely you. These are the photos that will transport you back to the excitement, anticipation, and magic of getting ready, so trust me when I say—future you (and your photographer!) will be so grateful you took a little time to prepare for them.
To make things super easy, I’ve put together a checklist of what to set aside for those dreamy flat-lay and detail shots.

The Ultimate Details Checklist
Wedding Shoes – Whether they’re elegant stilettos, sparkly flats, or personalised Converse, your wedding shoes deserve a moment in the spotlight.
Bouquet – Fresh florals make for stunning detail shots! If possible, ask your florist for a few extra loose flowers or greenery—they add such a beautiful touch to flat-lay photos.
Rings & Ring Box – Have both of your wedding rings and the engagement ring in one place, along with a stylish ring box (if you have one). Trust me, they look way prettier in a velvet box than in a plastic one from the jeweller. I always carry spare ring boxes to weddings for this reason so don't stress if you didn't have a chance to order han engraved wooden one from Etsy!
Jewellery – Earrings, bracelets, necklaces—whatever you’re wearing, have them ready to be photographed before they go on.
Veil – A delicate veil can create some of the dreamiest, most romantic shots. Plus, it looks stunning in flat lays!
Perfume – Scent is such a powerful memory trigger. A photo of your signature wedding-day fragrance is a lovely way to capture the full sensory experience.
Hairpieces – Whether it’s a sparkly hairpin, a floral crown, or a vintage comb, these little accessories make for gorgeous detail shots.
Buttonholes & Loose Flowers – Your partner’s buttonhole and any extra blooms from your florist help tie everything together in your detail photos.
Wedding Invitation – Including your stationery in your detail shots adds a lovely personal touch—it’s a beautiful way to remember how your guests were first introduced to your wedding style!
Anything Sentimental – A family heirloom, a locket, a handwritten note from your partner… if it’s meaningful to you, let’s capture it.
Bonus Tip: The Shoebox Trick
I cannot stress this enough—keep everything together in a box! This way, when I arrive on the morning of your wedding, I can get straight to work capturing all these beautiful details without anyone frantically searching for missing earrings. Plus, it helps keep the getting-ready space nice and calm—who doesn’t want a stress-free wedding morning?
So, there you have it! A little bit of planning ahead, and you’ll have the most stunning detail shots to treasure forever. I can’t wait to capture all the beauty of your day!
Happy wedding planning!
Lucy, your friendly Surrey wedding photographer
